Italian sound artist and curator Fabio Perletta follows an impressive run of releases on labels like Dragon's Eye and Line with this spooky long-form electro acoustic slab for the reliable SUPERPANG imprint. Seriously evocative soundscapes for alien realms.

Recorded in Japan and Italy over three years before being processed and reworked in the last year, "All'ombra di un fiore secco" feels like a major achievement from Perletta. It's restrained and subtle, but never languishes in its own minimalism. Implacable sounds scrape and rattle from a parallel dimension, like tiny demons attempting to breach a cosmic membrane with miniature power tools. Drones eventually appear to remind us that there's safety in the darkness.

But it's the final piece 'Untitled III' that has really impressed us. The longest of the three compositions, it begins with resonant hums that interlock and eventually fade into creaking hiss. Then percussion overlaps, balancing between woodblock rattle and something more subtly orchestral. Perletta makes music that's almost as hard to describe as it is enjoyable to absorb, and that's quite a feat.
