“Integral” marks the second collaboration between German electronic music pioneer Asmus Tietchens and sound artist Fabio Perletta. The album follows 2017's “Deflections”, released by German label aufabwegen.

For the first few seconds of Integral, the second collaboration between Fabio Perletta and Asmus Tietchens, you think you are about to hear a conventional field recording. But a macro-perspective is the last thing the duo intends. Instead, they zoom down tightly on a sparse, lower-case, and very fertile world. This is the natural biotope for Perletta, an investigator of microscopic noises with a fly-eyed, dot matrix view of the world, his minimalistic maneuvers boldly amplified by the delicate warmth Tietchens provides. Integral is comprised of seven numbered pieces and moves like a graceful, kinetic sculpture. The veteran Tietchens grounds the work in soft tones you could sink into, with a gentle shrug, vibrating gongs and air so freighted that the walls of the room bulge. On top, Perletta twitters, blinks on and off and catches the sound of light glinting off a shiny object. Both men are educators, but there is nothing dry or academic about Integral. It is lively and scenic, a landscape painted on the head of a pin.
